Dungeon Scrawl helps get your vision onto a map as quickly and easily as possible, and a Pro subscription unlocks advanced tools that provide even more creative control. Today, we pushed a small update based on subscriber feedback and requests.

Textures are one of the fastest ways to give your maps a sense of place (setting, climate, etc.), and we’ve expanded what you can do with them as follows:
- Floor and Background Textures can now be tinted! Whether you’re looking to create mossy green stone or sun-bleached wood, the new “Colour” options in Floor Options or the Background section let you blend any tint directly into your Textures.
- There’s now One Texture List to Rule Them All! Previously, Floor and Background textures were separated into unique lists based on where they were most likely to be implemented. Still, we’ve reduced restrictions to allow you to pull from the full library in either menu.
If you aren’t a subscriber but still want to add a little more color to your maps, we’ve made a change to Images! Click the drop-down arrow next to the Images layer, select the image you’d like to color, then pick a color in the settings section.

Lighting (Pro) and Shadows add depth and a sense of realism to your scenes, and we’ve made them a bit more robust:
- You can now control whether your walls block light when using the Lighting feature. Find a “Blocks Light” toggle in the Wall section of Layer Settings.
- Note: Light-blocking is tied to the wall itself, not to its visibility, so walls will still block light even if they're hidden or removed from view.
- World Building Presets no longer block light by default.

- The intensity of shadows, accessible to all users, can now be tuned directly from Layer Settings, allowing you to lower it for subtle depth or max for dramatic contrast.
- Shadows that fall over textured surfaces now use a Multiply blend mode, meaning they’ll interact with colors beneath them more naturally.
Want to see your map without a grid? Don’t want to hunt through layers and adjust a bunch of settings to accomplish that? We’ve made it easy for everyone (no subscription required):
- Turn off all grids with a single click with a new option in the “View” navigation menu.

Besides the updates above, we’ve also squashed a few notable bugs:
- Elaborate maps (including those that exceed 10,000px/side) no longer fail to export
- Duplicating layers that use floor textures no longer prevents changing the texture.
We hope these updates make your experience mapping even better. What would you like us to work on next? Let us know on Discord!
