March ‘26 Update: Send to Tabletop

17th Mar 2026

Dungeon Scrawl helps bring ideas to the table with as little friction as possible, and today we're excited to introduce a brand new feature available to everyone that brings your maps directly to your in-person games: Send to Tabletop! Plus, we've added Custom Layer Presets and new Textures for Pro subscribers, Hex Grid support for maps, and a handful of other improvements to make your workflow smoother.
Not a Pro subscriber? Not to worry! Our Map Makeover contest is live! Enter to win a chance to win a full year of Dungeon Scrawl Pro or a Roll20 Elite subscription for you or your GM! Read on to learn more.

Send to Tabletop

Displaying a full-screen map on a TV (or external monitor) is perfect for in-person sessions. Even better is having your players see only the map, with no visible tools, with real-time updates as you draw.
Send to Tabletop is a new Dungeon Scrawl feature that opens a clean, live view of your map in a new browser window and helps you cast to an external display.

Instructions

  1. Connect your external display via HDMI
  1. Set your display mode to Extended (not Mirrored)
  1. In Dungeon Scrawl, select your display from the dropdown and enter its dimensions
  1. Click Send to Tabletop
  1. Drag the new window to your external display if it doesn't appear there automatically
  1. Click the center of the window to enter full screen

You can choose from three connection methods, including wireless options, depending on your setup. Read about all three in our Help Center.

Fog of War

Control what your players see in Send to Tabletop mode using the Fog of War layer to hide and reveal parts of the map. Hidden areas remain visible on your screen behind an opaque layer in the editing window. To use:
  1. Create a new Fog of War layer from the Dungeon Presets menu
  1. Use any drawing tool to cover areas you want to hide from players (Rectangle recommended)
  1. Delete Fog using the Erase mode of your drawing tool to reveal areas as players explore (you can also hide Fog of War layers if you prefer to set up multiple sections in advance and remove them with a click).
Note: Change the opacity and color of fog in the Layer Settings menu.

Draggable Roll20 Connection Window

Reposition the sync window on your Roll20 Connected map by dragging it (no more arrow keys!)

Hex Grids on Background Layers

Hex line grids are now supported on the Background layer. Previously limited to square grids, backgrounds can now accommodate hex-based maps, giving you more flexibility in how you structure your scenes.
